Purpose:  The Rites of Passage marks a time when a person reaches a new and significant change in his or her life. The transition phase is the time that the participant learns the appropriate behavior for the new stage they are entering. Some of the items that are included on their Rites of Passage wiki space are Autobiographies, Journal entries, Virtues, Slogans, Poetry, Prose, Short stories, Book reports, and Expository paragraphs.  A ceremony is held to observe a person's entry into a new stage of life.
Procedure:  Sixth grade students from Woodlawn Community School posted their Rites of Passage Portfolio project on the Internet using a Wiki.  The wiki format allowed the students to work on the project both in school and home.
Origins:  This Wiki project was created to provide students with a vehicle to display their Rites of Passage Portfolio online.  Sixth grade students from Woodlawn Community School posted their Rites of Passage Portfolio project on the internet using a Wiki. Rites of Passage portfolio has been a school project for sixth grade students for years. I was looking for a way to put this project online for archival purposes.  That way students can review past students' works as reference tools to model their work on their portfolios.
Technology:  Internet connected computers and www.wikispaces.com.  We also used Microsoft Word.
